The Artio is far more than a fretted version of the Diva. It is a completely independent instrument, created for bassists who demand exceptional precision, outstanding tonal versatility, and uncompromising playability.
While the idea originated from the frequent request for a fretted Marleaux bass with the unmistakable feel of the Diva, Gerald Marleaux never intended to simply add frets to an existing design. His vision was to develop a new instrument with its own identity—combining innovative construction, a distinctive tonal character, and a playing experience unlike any other in the Marleaux lineup.
Years of research, development, and countless prototypes were invested before every detail met the standards expected of a Marleaux instrument. The result is a bass that perfectly balances modern engineering, refined ergonomics, and exceptional musical expression.
At the heart of the Artio is an extremely rigid bolt-on neck construction. The precisely engineered neck joint maximizes the transfer of string vibration while providing effortless access across the entire fingerboard. The result is an instrument that feels equally comfortable in the lowest positions as it does in the highest register.
Its 26 frets and 33.5″–34.5″ V-Scale multiscale design delivers remarkably even string tension, a fast and responsive attack, and outstanding balance from the lowest to the highest notes. Every string responds with clarity, authority, and a natural dynamic that inspires confident playing.
The Artio’s unmistakable voice is shaped by three custom-configured Delano pickups. A central X-Tender pickup, flanked by two JSBC pickups, offers an extraordinary range of switching combinations—from articulate single-coil textures to powerful humbucking voices with exceptional punch, definition, and presence. Whether in the studio or on stage, the Artio always finds its place in the mix with remarkable clarity.
Complementing this versatile pickup system is the newly developed Marleaux Artio 3-band active/passive electronics. Together they provide an extensive tonal palette, ranging from transparent vintage-inspired sounds to modern, powerful voices, while preserving the instrument’s natural dynamics and expressive character.
